users cannot download

Postby TrickyHH on Wed Feb 20, 2008 12:10 am

I'm truly sorry for such a moran question, i hope it is more complicated than just changing permissions or something similar.

Please check out this link http://www.jobelsound.com/joomla/material

I installed docman and I cannot get it to show documents so they are downloadable. After the initial install and some hours of playing around with it, I finally uninstalled the module and reinstalled this time with sample data.

Unfortunately, also the sample data doesn't allow the download. It is setup currently to being able to be downloaded by everybody, but also logging in the frontend as joomla administrator doesn't help.

One document in the workshop category has permissions for a specific group. Try username and password "downloads"

It seems that the taskbar is empty... no download nor details button. the document title also doesn't link the download.

I would really appreciate any help,
Lars

PS: By the way, it looks like a great joomla component...
PPS: I did check FAQs, Flash-tutorials and tried both searching in this forum and via Google...

Hi There

I too have the same problem. Can create the docs and have them showing but can't download them as such.

Tried all the permissions settings and they are correct. Not too sure about anti-leech but tried adding my site as a host as well and nothing

Any suggestions would be very helpful Thanks.

PS Complete Newbie but loving all things Joomla at moment

Okay Had a furthe look round the forums

I dont see any buttons for users to click on to dowload files

Should they be present and if not why not?

Could this be the problem?

Thanks again

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem following an upgrade from 1.4.0RC1 to 1.4.0RC2. In addition when you hover over the info icon the information shown is an abbreviated version of what used to show.

Hope somebody out there can throw some light on this .

check if the docman buttons have been installed
they are now in the form of a mambot to allow turning some buttons on/off
Please do not PM me with support requests, use the forums

Hi,

Sorry to be so naive, could you please advise where to check if the buttons were installed? Also, could you let us know the name of the mambot you referred to.

On another note, I upgraded a cloned version of my site which runs under WAMP on a PC and all went well - the buttons are visible, which leads me to suspect a permissions issue with this problem.

No, its not a permission problem:

viewtopic.php?f=27&t=680#p2328

The copy/rename function fail or are not executed. All involved directories under J1.0 are 777.

Maybe its a J1.0 issue.

Thanks euro22 - I'm sure you are on the right track. In the meantime I have gone back to 1.0.4 RC1 until a fix is found.

When you downloaded RC2 there is just below the readme-file. There is said:
New features in v1.4.0 RC2
---------------------------
* Edit the buttons (download, view, edit etc) in the new Button plugin
* Many small improvements and fixes

So as X-Ception said its mambot. Go Backend > mambots > Site mambots and you should see DOCman Standard Buttons. Publish it, if it is unpublished. Open it to see what buttons are invisible.

If this mambot isnt there something went wrong with the installation.
Always backup your site before you make any major changes to it.

Hi thanks for the feedback, I will check the mambot tonight, as our company proxy does not let me access the joomla backend...

It could be it, although I don't remember seeing that specific mambot, but may be I just overlooked. Will get back with feedback tonight. If thats the one, it should be added to the faq section along with the screenshot what the actual buttons look like...
